Moving is fun! (said no-one ever)

Choosing a Removalist Provider – What to Consider?

So, you’ve just landed that great job in a new location. As you look around your home, you wonder how to tackle the daunting task of moving.

Moving is considered one of the most stressful things in life, but with some practical tips and advice, it doesn’t have to be.

Firstly, make sure to obtain 2-3 quotes from a certified removalist. FAIM FIDA accredited companies are globally recognised for their quality standards in the moving industry.

Then, before your belongings are surveyed, there are a few things you should consider:

  • Will you be taking everything with you? If not, think about selling/donating items now.

  • Will you need storage at your destination? You might be moving into a smaller home or one without a garage.

  • Do you want unpacking onto benchtops, or valet style into your cupboards?

  • Do you prefer a sole shipping container, or are you happy for your items to be shared with a third party?

The cheapest quote is not necessarily the final price, so comparing apples with apples is key. Look at the cubic metre volume – are they the same? Make sure additional services and fees, not included, are outlined clearly. For example, will there be extra charges to reassemble your kid’s trampoline or IKEA furniture? Delivery on a weekend or to a property with difficult access, can also attract additional fees.

And don’t forget about insurance. Carefully establish the value of your goods should any items be damaged in transit.

Before you make your decision, read all the terms and conditions carefully as you don’t want any surprises.

There are so many factors to consider when choosing a removalist. Contact us to see how we can provide further advice to make your move seamless.
